Earlier this spring, GEORGE started working with a lovely client in Manhattan Beach on a fireplace remodel. The raised hearth fireplace with masonry surround (pictured below), was original to the 1970s house.
Here is a wider view of the room with the original fireplace...
After considering several options, the client decided to go with a carved travertine fireplace mantle and surround from a local distributor. With the new surround in mind, demo work commenced...
Indoor jackhammering was pretty cool!
And the raised hearth was gone, just like that! Next up, build a new smooth wall on top of the masonry, including a concealed channel for the TV wiring... (sorry - didn't get any photos of that part!)
And at last, the new travertine surround gets installed...
And would you believe... IT IS THE WRONG ONE!!! Since we get a redo... what do you think?! Should it be wider, less mantle, more curves... what do you think??
Happy Friday!
