Two DIY projects that fire me up!

OK I have DIY on the brain...
Mila & I spent the afternoon painting her old desk (you could see the result on Instagram.com) and then we made white pom poms to hang in her bedroom.
I have to admit the desk looks good. I'm not a massive fan of pink but she chose a gorgeous soft pink from Dulux and against her grey wall, it looks beautiful. I will post pictures later on this week.
In the meantime, these two DIY projects fired me up.
The first one is an idea from Emily Henderson to style shelving units for one of her clients. You should follow the link as she describes the whole creative process and I think it's a brilliant idea! I would love to do something like this on our house in France.
The second one are these house numbers inspired by the work of Architect Richard Neutra, found on Curbly and when you know the price of contemporary house number, I think you will find the result pretty impressive!
As I have been offered tickets to go to The National Home Improvement Show, that's where we will go after our ride in Richmond Park so maybe I'll see you there! Have a great weekend

Reading spot...

Feeling a bit under the weather today... too many plans can make you tired I think.
This would be the perfect place to take a few hours and leisurely read with a big cup of tea.

Wishing you a restful Saturday!

Shelter loves 9.28.12

pinning, loving, pinning this week! Have a fabulous weekend! xx
1. The Chinti and Parker heart sweater for Goop. Sadly I won't be owning this one, it's $515.00 and a bit out of my "snack bracket" for a sweater.
2. Soft cozy blankets exactly like this! similar blankets here
3. Love this brass bar cart and the price is right: Crate and Barrel
4. Adore these Sandy Hyun cuffs
5. The Chloe Erin riding boot. These would be perfection paired with jeans and a chunky knit sweater
6. Gwen poses perfectly on the cover of this month's Bazaar! She's 43 and still looks killer! Rock on Gwen!

Masculine & transitional...

A little inspiration for a Friday.  This is an inspiration board from my presentation this week.  I fell for the easy semi masculine feel of this one.  I hope you have a wonderful weekend and thanks for sharing a little bit of your day with me here, it is so nice to be able to share my work and ideas with everyone.

Design Project - Little Girl's Bedroom

I had such a great day yesterday!  I presented a couple of design plans, one of which was a little girl's bedroom.  When I presented the plan, my client was so thrilled she had tears in her eyes!!!
Totally and completely MADE. MY. DAY!
Here are some images from the design plan.

The walls in the space were already painted a soft light pink, so we took this palette and ran with it.

Here are the fabrics that will take this cute girl from toddler to teenager.
Although I can't share the sources included in this plan (since it's work product for my client), I did want to show you the design layout and boards for the project.  I hope everybody has a great weekend.  I'm planning on getting some fun Halloween decorations up. M.

PS: If you would like help pulling a space together or creating a plan to take your current space to a whole new place, I would love to help you!

Little creative project for the weekend

Lately, things have been pretty busy for Steve and I and as a result, we are both quite tired by the time we catch up in the evening and often, we just end up crashing on the sofa watching TV. I know these signs very well. It's a slow, slippery slope that little by little drives us apart. We get tired, start drifting and then suddenly you're not close anymore and you argue for little things when all you want to do is curling up in each other's arms. It happens to all of us. So this weekend, it's family reconnecting time!
Saturday afternoon: Mila and I are doing some DIY. As she fancies a change in her bedroom (more pink!), I showed her all my Pinterest boards to see what would inspire her to do and her choice went for this image so we'll be painting her old white wooden desk in soft pink.
Saturday evening: The All Blacks are playing at midnight. I really don't care about rugby but apparently it happens once a year and I know how important this is to Steve so we will watch it as a family and Mila is super excited by the prospect of having a midnight feast although she will probably fall asleep.
Sunday: If it doesn't rain, we will go for a bike ride around Richmond Park and take Lucas with us because there is nothing than being out there, breathing fresh air, away from the computer to have a good time as a family.
Have a great weekend!

bar continued...

Here's a different detail shot of Amanda's bar set up, in what appears to be another home. I love how she places vintage pitchers in pulled out drawers and distinctive objects to give her home character and charm. I found this shot in an article by Rita Konig in Inside Out magazine.

Bahama style

The crisp chilly mornings are a reminder of what is around the corner here in Boston. Right now I'm embracing and loving The Fall.  My dream (and hope) as I build and continue to grow my interior design business is to one day have a remote office (in either The Bahamas or Palm Beach) where I'll live and work during the frigid Boston winters. I've always been drawn to the casual, crisp and slightly retro-glam cottage style of this area. I loved the layered mix designer Amanda Lindroth used in her own home in this month's House Beautiful. The idea of having a boat at a dock in your backyard sounds like perfection to me! I'm also really still drawn to navy and royal blues right now!
I love a glimpse at a great bar set up, it almost tells you something about how the inhabitants live.

From kitchen inspirations...to a new little side table

Last week, I took this white "Have a seat"stool home.
I was planning to use it to sit in front of the wooden table we have in the kitchen as a step towards my Kitchen master plan* but in the middle of styling bits and pieces with Francois, I used it as a support to display the Familia cups.
And suddenly, it struck me that it would be be perfect as a little side table by our white sofa so since then, that's where it has been and it's just perfect to put our cups of tea nearby when Steve and I watch TV together...Voila...I thought I would share because I was happy with this :-)

My Kitchen Master plan* involves inspiration from these gorgeous, soft industrial kitchens:
- this one if I manage to get rid of Steve's oak table from Habitat one day....
- this one which I think is the one that is probably most like my style and looking at it...I'm thinking it could be nice to paint half of our wall in soft grey
- this one which I pinned on our fridge
- this one which inspired us to paint the door frame outside in black

Metallic Hide Rugs

I know I'm a bit late on this post, but I haven't been able to get Catherine Sheppard's home out of my head since I saw it on The Glitter Guide back in June.
More specifically, I'm still drooling over her metallic cowhide rug, I mean, how good!

Then yesterday, I was on Rug USA's website (because I feel the perfect rug for  my living room space would be a faux zebra hide) and I came across this metallic beauty:

I just love it! It's currently half off and an excellent price at $335, but sadly still out of my lowly student budget.
They also offer this one, with silver metallic detailing. It's so subtle and glittery!

Cowhides are probably my all time fave kind of rug (although my guy doesn't like them...he's cray but I MUST convince him by the time we get a place together), and I'm now lusting over these glammed up options!

A little of this..

Hello there, sorry for my absence yesterday... how quickly the days seem to pass.  Another busy week is almost ready to be put to rest and I am definitely dreaming of the weekend.  This weekend will be just us girls relaxing here at home, my daughter and me.  I am excited to take a little break from work and spend some time getting the house in order.
We start our final round on the kitchen renovation next week and I am excited and anxious about it.  There are still many choices to be made, that is how it is works around here.  I did speak with my furniture maker yesterday though and we are going to put a contrasting color in the new piece that will hold all of my everyday dishes, now someone needs to pick that color please!
I have pulled a bunch of greys, and greiges to start with.  I will be sure to keep you up to date on all of the selections.
I am also working with the wonderful Shari from Little Blue Deer on a makeover for the blog, it will be fun to have a fresh new look around here don't you think?

Also, a little bit of a delayed THANK YOU to Leaf Magazine for including some pieces from the shop in their current issue!

Behind-the-scene photoshoot with a Danish team

Yesterday, my home was photographed & styled by a Danish team...I was busy working on our new site in the kitchen so I let them get on with it. After 3 photoshoots in the space of a few weeks including my favourite in MILK Decoration, I wasn't sure how different their shots could be from what we had seen before but the stylist was very good and they made some great photos.
The photo on the wall next to the BAU pendant light (photo 2) is one of Mila taken by Francois (who has now a new website here). I will show later on the whole series we did around this gorgeous black tutu - it looks fabulous!
The Monkey print is part of our AW 2012 collection and should arrive this week. If you haven't requested a copy of our new catalogue, make sure you do it here.
Have a great day!
