Showering Baby Maynard Aloha-Style!

This past weekend Emily's parents and sisters, along with her husband Slug's (aka Chris) mother, flew in to celebrate the soon-to-be new addition to their families! The outdoor Hawaiian-themed party was perfect - almost too perfect, as the weather over-cooperated and gave us one of the hottest days of the summer! I'm not sure how Em managed with the heat, if you've been pregnant in the summer you know what I mean. ;) Being seven months pregnant definitely looks great on her!

Grandma Maynard organized the most adorable laundry line of itty-bitty clothing, tights and sleepers. It was so cute watching Emily pull and pull, and PULL, more stuff out of that basket!

Of course there were many oohs and aahs over the clever baby gadgets and sweet outfits they received...

I wish I got a picture of all the yummy food (lots of bbq, pineapple & dried cherry couscous, watermelon, tomato & feta salad, etc), but I only managed to capture the colorful surfboard and baby pram cookies. It was all delish!

{You know you're only mins from the beach when you have surfboards lying around ready to become a table!}

Lastly, some of the wee party guests. Here is cutie Luciana and my daughter Rael - baby Maynard's eagerly awaiting playmates!

Oh, and big brother George!

The shower was fabulous, but what is more fabulous is that Emily and Slug are going to be parents!

Emily - I am so grateful for the friendship we have developed over the last few years! You are a great friend in many ways, but the fact that you fully understand my love for design and are just as willing to talk about it for hours makes our friendship that much more special. I can't wait until we will have yet another 'love' in common - our baby girls! In addition to discussing color, fabrics and furniture, I look forward to gabbing with you about the joys of motherhood, and commiserating about those tiring days too! ;)

Wishing your growing family lots of love, health and happiness - can't wait for the reveal of your newest little "design"! xo

J Crew Liquor Store

i ran across the j crew liquor store while parousing the ACL blog last night. i know this store has been open for a couple of years and is possibly "old news" on the blogging circuit. however i think it's such a great concept and wish more of the big brand stores would preserve local neighborhood history and the integrity of the interior fixtures like j crew did here. amanda

really like the bead board painted black and that fireplace is great. glad they kept.

Gaining Momentum

In the October issue of Traditional Home there is a wonderful article about Suzanne Kasler.  The article follows Suzanne through one of her typical days.
It's a very interesting article, and I would encourage you to pick it up (almost like reading reality TV)!

But what really got me was when writer Jennifer Wilson mentioned that Suzanne had this quote above her desk,
"What would you attempt to do if you knew you could not fail?" . . .

After reading this, I thought, "This is how I want to live my life.  This is how I want my children to live their lives." How often, as adults, do we really think about this?  I feel like the daily stresses of life attempt to squeeze this mindset out of us as we grow up.

To say the least, the article sparked my interest.  So, I went to Suzanne's website.  Wow, again! There is no question that she lives her life with this attitude.  Otherwise, how could she create this kind of magic?

Artist Love

I don't claim to know a lot about art. But I do know what I like! And to me that is all that matters when it comes to purchasing have to love it, be moved by it and/or leave the gallery or shop dreaming about it. Through all my blog reading, I have come across some amazing artists (I love) lately and wanted to share these talents with you.

White Cottage With Orange Door

Four Seasons: Winter

And while talking about art, I wanted to mention The Charleston Artist Collective, a website for local artists that want to showcase their work outside of the conventional gallery setting. Each month, the site features artist's interpretations of a new theme and a percentage of the sales goes back towards the community. Go check it out!

Tablescapes Benefit 2010

It's that time of the year again.  Time to set the table with inspiring table settings for holidays, parties and seasons at Tablecapes Benefit.

This year, leave the Old North End of Colorado Springs behind and get lost in the peaceful world of the English Countryside reminiscent of the world within Jane Austen’s “Sense And Sensibility”, but with a modern flair. Crisp green pears, white pumpkins, and traditional floral arrangements with acorn accents combined with crisp clean white place settings are sure to create a lasting impression that will be sure to put your mind, and spirit, at ease.

Join me October 1 & 2, 2010 / 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. at 1725 Culabra Place.  Catering provided by C Cobb Creations, bite size sandwiches and scones for an English Country tasting.

Tickets are $30 or 4 for $100.  Gather your friends together for a fun tour of homes in The Old North End and The Broadmoor.  All ticket proceeds go to TESSA, dedicated to building a community without domestic ad sexual violence. Tickets can be purchased online of the TESSA website.

A great event for a great cause!
