today is my mother's birthday. she still lives in iowa. she is a wonderful, smart, caring woman. tomorrow we are going to see her and the rest of my family as i am in a wedding in waterloo on saturday. happy birthday, mom!

whenever we go back to iowa, we get excited to eat at our old restaurants and delis we would frequent as residents. one in particular is called south union and it is in downtown des moines. i actually had a conversation with the owner when we first moved out here to ship out some of his famous spicy potato soup. he mentioned he would, and i told brad, but the soup never arrived. guess it's his way of luring us back into this deli. jolene.
