New York

Ok, so around the world might not happen, but we'll make it across the pond, I promise. Just not yet...

I didn't make my first trip to New York until a few years ago, and now I can't get enough. A few things I've liked:

TO DO:

Shopping:

Oh the shopping! Can't go to New York without a stop at Bergdorf Goodman and Barney's. Love John Derian's shops down in the East Village. Kate Spade and Kirna Zabete in Soho are fun. I don't think a visit would be complete without a stop at ABC Carpet and Home. And for a little flea action, I love the Antiques Garage.

Hurray for revitalization and adaptive re-use! A new section just opened, so if you've already visited, another might be in order.

Museums and Galleries:

I'm itching to see Alexander McQueen's Savage Beauty at the Met, and I really enjoyed a recent visit to the New Museum down in the East Village. I always love what I see at the Gagosian and Paul Kasmin Galleries. The Monya Rowe Gallery represents a favorite of mine, Larissa Bates. Another recent highlight was the Roses all along Park Avenue.

I saw an amazing art fair here, and I am always getting emails on their interesting events and programs .

Something a little different:

It's always fun to go outside the box. Last November I had the great honor of saying hello to Albert Hadley at "Rooms with a View," at The Southport Congregational Church. In 2010, room vignettes were created by proteges of Mr. Hadley, in an homage to his work. Keep an eye out for the next one in the first week of November (I believe).

Hello Mr. Hadley! (I think he was on to me!)

TO STAY:

I am dying to stay here...the interior design looks ah-may-zing!

I've always had great experiences at Thompson Hotels, and this one is in the middle of Soho.

This is my go to in NYC. Right off of Central Park West, the location for me can't be beat, and the staff is great. Steven Sclaroff designed this one, and while the interior design isn't the reason I come back again and again, I do love Mr. Sclaroff's work (I L.O.V.E Kate Spade's apartment!). Warning: it's a little dark and moody, and like so many NYC hotels the rooms are tiny, so it may not be for everyone.

An NYC style B & B on the Upper East Side. I stayed here a few years back and really enjoyed it...something a little different!

TO EAT AND DRINK:

Designed by Kelly Wearstler, this is one of my favorite restaurants in NYC, and our own Ms. Amanda Malson had a hand in its creation!

I just went for the first time on my last visit, and I can't wait to go back!

David Burke's restaurants:

I love the Townhouse and Fishtail is great too. They both have a prix fixe lunch that is a fabulous way to get introduced to David Burke's inventive cuisine.

Le Pain Quotidien: so simple, but so good. Another favorite.

DBGB: in the Bowery. Staples like hamburgers and hot dogs, as envisionsed by Daniel Boulud.

Cafeteria: in Chelsea... tasty and fun!

Rice to Riches: on Spring street in Soho, more flavors of rice pudding than you ever knew exisited!

Jacques Torres: Mr. Chocolate! Need I say more?

Oh the places we have yet to go...
