amanda and i have been working with our new, fun client who is remodeling her condo and is wanting a clean, modern kitchen. we are beyond excited about this. our most recent suggestion to her is to remove the refrigerator and replace it with two undercabinet refrigerators. this will allow us to open up the space, which is great, but more importantly we are proposing to install open shelving. she pulled some fantastic lofty/european mood shots for us to work with, which inspired me to find even more. i dream of the day i can have a kitchen with open shelving as it will force me to be clean and orderly. jolene. (by the way...happy valentines day!)
i think this one is my personal favorite. the white cabinets are her style, plus having white cabinets will make the room appear more open. i also really love the small border of tile along the top to add a pop of interest and color.
i found this one to be just plain interesting. i'm not in love with the sea of white tiles as i used to have white tiles in my own kitchen and hated having dirty grout, but i found it to be a different way to approach an open kitchen lifestyle. and it's chunky. i love chunky design.
this is more a i-wish-i-had-this-many-cool-options kitchen.
i was really inspired by this hidden gem. our last two clients have painted their lower cabinets darker and their upper cabinets lighter, but i am totally digging the reverse. AND open shelving. just plain perfect. i feel like this might be my favorite over the top one now. see how easily i can persuade myself?
i'm a total sucker for black painted window mullions. i'm also a sucker for mason jars used as storage because it reminds me so much of my childhood and growing up in the country. we definitely had a basement full of mason jars filled with canned food. and we definitely canned food every summer from the garden. it makes me sad thinking that i don't have the same experience now. i also love the traditional open shelving here with the exposed supports. it adds a little interest and i'm sure relieves the homeowner of 'my plates will not fall in the event of an earthquake' feeling.
