westweek 2010 design revolution

westweek begins next week and is sure to be packed with many interesting lectures and new product introductions. i'm happy to see patricia shackelford of the mrs. blanding blog and designer vicente wolf on the roster for one of the lectures this year that i will be attending. i had the good fortune of meeting patricia over coffee at the cutest coffee shops (the filling station) while visting kansas city last summer. she is lovely, i'm looking forward to saying hello next week, one kansas girl to another. oh and what can i say about vicente wolf, he is a lovely man as well and has been one of my designer inspirations for years now. i'm very much looking forward to meeting him.

i can't even believe this!! the pdc will be displaying a rare bi-plane designed by octave chanute during weekweek this year. the class bi-plane was the original design from which the wright brothers adapted their later hang glider. the reason i can't believe it is because i was born and raised and lived in chanute, ks until the age of 22. chanute is a very small quite midwestern town that is also well know for it's safari museum dedicated to african explorers and adventurers, film makers and authors osa and martin johnson. (designers, i know you've see the ever popular zebra patterned antique book around in magazines, blogs and books. it's probably sitting on your coffee table as i write this.) well across the street from the safari is a small museum dedicated to octave and aviation. chanute has one small airport of which we were aloud to visit periodically on school trips. my friends dad worked there and would always blow up and demonstrate how and what weather balloons do. later on in high school my best friend lori and i decided it would be a good idea to spend the night in her car in the airport parking lot...we were rudely awakened by loudly whirling propellers...how rude!!! why did we spend the night in the airport parking lot in the front seat of her dads car, you ask? well that's just one of those crazy midwest stories i'll only tell under the coercion of an alcoholic beverage.
i really love orlando diaz-azcuy's design, he has beyond impeccable taste and i love his book. looking forward to this lecture and book signing as well.
last but not least, cecconi's is a preferred restaurant of the pdc for weekweek. jolene and love it here! it's where we like to lunch, see people like ryan seacrest, and meet new friends such as the one we met there last week. hello to our newest friends! great food. great design. fun people watching.
