i don't watch the news mainly because it's on too late. i usually read the news when i am between appointments on my blackberry. i found this particular story about the ady gil extremely fascinating. the gist: in antarctica there are many whaling ships that kill whales for 'research.' this, unfortunately, is not actually why they kill them, but rather to take them back to japan and eat because some parts of the whale are considered a delicacy in their country. the ady gil was a large sea shepherd boat built to help save the whales from being killed for food. just last week when the ady gil was doing just that, a japanese ship came and destroyed the boat causing it to sink. it had only been on the water for 2 months when this happened. all of that being said, and me reading about this story (first on tmz...yep, i admit it) then on cnn, i realized a good friend of mine knows ady gil, the man behind the boat. i contacted him to tell him i supported his cause and immediately he told me about a fund raising event at ady's house this past saturday to raise money to build a new boat. amanda and i of course said yes, and domicile was represented at the party and contributed funds to the amazing cause. we had such a great time and met so many fantastic people. here are a couple pictures of the before and after. jolene.
