Jonathan Adler NYC

It's a cold and rainy day in Wellington - so here is Jonathan Adler's NYC home to liven things up. Adler has always believed that the prescription for anti-depressive living is colour and not taking things too seriously - and he truly practices what he preaches. Enjoy.

No Pop of Colour: Neutral Rooms

Usually, I am all about a bright pop of colour as an accent in any room. Lately, however, I have been noticing a lot of stunning rooms that lack that pop and make their statements all in a neutral scheme.

I find many people in my life are afraid of incorporating bold colour into their space, and these inspirational images have taught me that neutral does not have to be boring.
The key is to mix patterns, tones, styles and textures to create interest!
My favourites are the first and the last one. That glass garden stool is a-maze-ing. I'm drooling.
What do you think of neutral decor?

Favourite Furniture Fridays: The Wishbone Chair

A Brief History:
The wishbone chair was designed in 1949 by Danish designer Hans J. Wegner. Since it's invention, it has been in constant production by the fine furniture company Carl Hansen and Son. It gets its name from the unique centre piece on the back of the chair, which literally resembles the forked clavicle or collar bone found in most birds, commonly called a wishbone. There was an ancient belief that chickens were fortune tellers, and that when two people hold the wishbone and pull it until it breaks, the person left with the longer piece will have their wish granted. Kinda cool!

For the more practical minded, it's also known as the Y-chair. Officially the CH24. Easily customizable and made from steam bent beechwood. Priced at around $800. It's name is totally appropriate because although it's way out of my budget, one can always wish.

What I love about these chairs is their delicate, gorgeous frame, and their tremendous customizability.

Colorful Curtains!

Do you have the Monday blues? I sure do. It's my last day of my lucky full month and one day off between semesters. Although I'm looking forward to getting back into the swing of things, I can't help but want to continue relaxing for just a few more days. The best cure to the blues, however, is a bright injection of good interior design. Today, I bring you this in colorful curtains.

^ Designer Samantha Pynn livens up a black and white scheme with these blue floral curtains. The fabrics are from The Finnish Place. I think the curtains absolutely steal the show in this kitchen.

^ The two images above use the same beautiful floral and fruitful curtain to set off the white walls. I got them from different sources, so I'm not sure whether or not they are from the same living space. Either way, both feature a beautiful use of the bold fabric.

^ Curtains aren't just for windows you know! Add a pop of colour to your closets with this fun idea.

^ I'm loving these pink floral beauties.

My favourite featured look here is Sam Pynn's. In fact, I think she's brilliant with curtains in most of her designs, adding piping or colour bands to simple ready made drapes in many instances. What's your favourite?
Oh ya, and CHEER UP. Hope this helped bring a smile to your face!
Happy Monday,
Tiffany Leigh

Colourful Swedish Bathroom

Bathroom in Story Hotel, Stockholm.

Check out these interesting bathrooms at Story Hotel - a cool downtown hotel in Stockholm, Sweden. I like the quirky use of bold basins and coloured tiled flooring while the rest of the bathroom remains classic and white.

Orange

According to Kate Spade New York, May is the month of Orange. My brother in law will be happy about this - it is his favourite colour. I'm liking it too - enjoy this cute video celebrating this vibrant colour.

Colour - Seafoam

From Something Gotta Give - Seafoam on the walls in the bedroom.

Seafoam walls in a gentleman's living room via Absolutely Beautiful Things.
One of the desired aspects from the movie, Something Gotta Give that I have from a client is the 'seafoam' wall colour found in Diane Keaton's character, Erica's bedroom. So the hunt is on to find the muted soft grey green that will suit. I found some other interiors with the same colour - looks great in a beach house and a gentleman's living room.

Colour.

This looks like it may be an advertisment or a styled set to show off a selection of colours - however, I really like the composition and how the colours come together. This would be great in an all-white house and you get a pleasant colourful surprise when you enter the kitchen. This image is by stylist Lo Bjurulf.

Pantone Colour 2011 - Honeysuckle

In November, Pantone annouced the colour for the year 2011. It is the bold 'Honeysuckle' -
"Courageous. Confident. Vital. A brave new color, for a brave new world. Let the bold spirit of Honeysuckle infuse you, lift you and carry you through the year. It’s a color for every day – with nothing “everyday” about it.
A dynamic reddish pink, Honeysuckle is encouraging and uplifting. It elevates our psyche beyond escape, instilling the confidence, courage and spirit to meet the exhaustive challenges that have become part of everyday life."
So if you thinking that you need something uplifting in your interiors- a small dose of Honeysuckle will be 2011's way to go.
