Exams = Messy Desk

Exam time always means a messy desk. It usually is much more glamorous than this, but I posted these images in the hopes that you all will bear with the lack of posts for the next week. I'm in finals. My final week of finals of my final year of University. CRAZY. Almost graduated. I'll try to make some time for blogging though!

Library Ladders

K Who doesn't want one of these? I'd even slap a ladder on a bookshelf that I could reach every shelf on my own, just for aesthetic purposes.
^I like this pop of red

When I get a library ladder, I will swing across the room on it singing "There Must be More than this Provincial Life" a la Belle in Beauty and the Beast (been in love with these ladders since I was four thanks to this movie)

Happy Weekend

Happy Weekend everyone! I hope it's going lovely. I'm busy completing some Art History assignments, but got a little distracted by the release of the new issue of Lonny Magazine. Check it out NOW.
My favourite image was this gorgeous office of designer Amanda Nisbet (page 74). The lucite desk, the bright colours, the sparkle and the organization! Everything. Gimme it please!

Favourite Furniture Fridays: IKEA ALEX drawer unit with casters

{I'm beginning to think I should retitle this series 'Ikea' Furniture Fridays, I love so many of their items! But I like alliteration...so the title stays!}
Today the piece I'm featuring is the ALEX drawer unit with casters. Chances are you've seen this piece (and maybe didn't even realize it)!
via
^ This is actually my dream studio office space. The IKEA unit successfully seperates the desk into two distinct work stations:
One for designing, the other for sewing.

via
^ Here the castors have been removed and the units have been built into this giant island-style desk!
via
^Line them up!
via
^ Stack them up!
^ The IKEA catalogue does it right!

Do any of you have this piece? How do you like it?

Roses are Red, but VELVET is Blue

Don't tell my boyfriend, but I have a MAJOR CRUSH on blue velvet. Actually maybe do tell him, that way on special occasions I'll get velvet instead of flowers...wouldn't that be lovely? I spend my time day dreaming about this rich, warm and luxurious fabric! Drooling.

^ Bright blue chair steals the show.

^ A cozy blue tufted headboard.

Um...Excuse me, were you just checking out my crush? Well that's okay, I don't blame you ;)
Which is your fave?

Favourite Furniture Fridays: Glass Top Desk

I'm constantly on the look out for inspiration for my future creative studio/office space. One thing I've been spotting lately are desks with a raised glass top, so you can easily slide inspiration and notes between the desk top and the glass.
Stylish, and practical, it looks good from both sides so it can be in the middle of the room rather than up against the wall. Also, you can take the pieces you're using for a current project off of the chaotic inspiration board and have them readily in sight. Isn't it drool worthy? I was fully prepared to pine away until a recent trip to IKEA proved that I can actually afford this baby quite easily!

What do you think? Can you see yourself getting work done at this gorgeous desk? I sure can.

Inspirational Office

Lot's of homework to get through in the next few days, so I'd post a pretty office space to get me motivated. Now if I had a workspace like this I might actually be excited to do my assignments! I love the bright floral rug and the cool art deco archway. Enjoy! xox Tiffany Leigh

Office Space: Is It Masculine?

Men typically do not take much of role when it comes to designing their living spaces. Often the woman takes over, this is her area of expertise. Women, you can be empowered to design a space for your man even if he claims he wants no part of it.

To begin, how would you describe a masculine space? It contains rich textures and deep colors. It combines clean lines and functionality. Sometimes quirkiness with the addition of personal items or objects (super hero figurines).

How do you design a masculine space? Combine the old with the new. Old beat up leather suitcases stacked next to a new, crisp fabric upholstered sofa. Think of iconic masculine environments, did they consist of neutral colors on the walls? Chocolates, taupes and grays are good bets. . A mix of metals, wood and fabric is fail safe. Matching all of the wood in the same stain is boring. Men's suiting fabric is always masculine. Need to soften the space, add plants. The opportunity to interact with the space, watering and taking care of a plant, gives a man something to take pride in.
Allow the man to express his ideas and take it from there. His office is a good place to start.

Designer Profile: David Jimenez

Born and raised in New York City, David Jimenez now has homes in Kansas City, San Francisco and Palm Springs. His visual touch in Pottery Barn and Restoration Hardware has affected the styles of homes in the United States. Currently David is vice president of visual merchandising and store design for Hallmark Cards, Inc.
I love his home in Palm Springs and the “fresh twist on timeless style in the desert." Davids mid-century modern meets Hollywood Regency is so much fun. Click here to view more of his interiors.
