Laurel Hardware

This is Laurel Hardware  - a former hardware store which has been reincarnated into a restaurant and bar earlier this year. Located near Laurel Canyon in West Hollywood, this establishment has retain the old fashioned charm of the former store, while creating a homey spirit and fresh vibe with the new installation. Check out the amazing back courtyard and I love the contrast between the fresh white tiled eating area and the moody bar at the back. Designed by Sam Marshall, who is also known for his work on another Californian restaurant called Gjelina.

New York Weekend House

Frank Muytjens

Kitchen with vintage lights and draughting stools.

Living room with vintage stools used as side tables.

Muytjens' cool wardrobe.

Main bedroom.

This is the weekend home of Frank Muytjens, the head of men's design at JCrew (a US fashion brand that I love!). This two bedroom house is located two hours out of Manhattan in a town called Hillsdale. I think the house has a great lived in, masculine and unpretentious feel about it. Read more about the home here.

A Cool Nursery

I love it when I see a cool nursery that does not go down the typical baby blue or baby pink route - this one was styled by the clever Morgan Satterfield (check out her blog The Brick House).
And for you USA readers - you can win the cot, the (awesome) chair/ottoman set and a choice of prints from The Animal Print Shop. What an amazing prize - enter here.

Dahlia Galore in San Francisco

Have you seen anything as amazing as this? This is the Dahlia Dell at Golden Gate Park, San Francisco - and the dahlia flowers were in full bloom early this October. I did not know that the Dahlia is the official city flower for SF and when they're planted together like this, they look stunning. Read more about them here.

Ruschmeyer's by King & Grove

This is Ruschmeyer's, a hotel in Montauk, USA by the hotel group, King & Grove. While they have closed for their 2012 summer season, this is good inspiration for us getting ready for our up coming summer time. Evocative of a nautical summer camp, Ruschmeyer's has a cool relaxed vibe and is located on three acres on lakeside woodland. With plenty of activities available, the gorgeous fresh bedrooms and its own 'rum shack', you know you could have a great time here...

Sophisicated Kid's Bedrooms

Here are two kid's bedrooms that I came across via Elle Decor and they belong to the children of actress Reese Witherspoon. I was impressed to see them very chic and sophisicated with antique furnishings. There is a 1830's Swedish table, a vintage chair and 1920's tole chandelier in the girl's bedroom, while the boy's room contains an antique desk, a Turkish rug and an Italian mirror. This is a nice change from the usual young people bedrooms that we usually see.
You can see the rest of Witherspoon's Ojai home here.

Stylish Office

This is the stylish office belonging to Jim Rosenfield, a succesful large scale retail owner, located in Marin County, California. With a keen eye for design, Rosenfield has created a place that felt like home. "I love work," he says, "and I want the space to feel like home, since this is where I spend a lot of my time." It's also a showcase of sorts for his highly evolved aesthetic: "This is a place where people come to see the potential of the spaces."
I enjoy seeing examples of corporate environments that are 'relaxed' and softer around the edges - while still very professional and creating comfortable spaces for their employees.
