17 Ways to Make Organizing Fun!

IKEA hack: Purse storage.

This is a great idea if you are short on space and have to store your items in another spot that is not accessible. Take a photo of the item and catalog it for reference. Hyper-organized, you could say that!
Like the photos on the door-will work wonders for my shoe and purse storage

So I am an avid collector of clutches and have been trying to think of a creative way to store them so I did some Googling. No luck. Any ideas? Email me sidney@eclectic-idg.com or leave us a comment. Speaking of clutches, this guy is next on my list...

Decorganizing: Paint Swatches

Paint chip keychain with the colors of your walls, furniture, fabrics...
via Pinterest

Here is a brilliant idea for keeping up with the paint colors used in your home! Paint wood chips (found at a craft store) with the color of each room and the room's name then put them on a chain and carry them in your car or purse for quick matches while shopping. Absolutely genius! I am going to try to remember to do this for my clients as a lil' gift!

Have any other ideas? Please leave a comment.

If you are local, be sure to stop by the opening of Novel, a showroom for the talented artisans of these collections: Blue Chickadee (she made the custom burlap pillows available on Eclectic Finds as well as adorable children's items like canvas bags and mobiles), Jane Pope and Balboa Jewelry and Library (vintage clothing + accessories).

Decorganizing: Jewelry as Art

I love the idea of laying out your jewelry for all to see! For one, you are more likely to wear it when you can see it. But it can also look like art when displayed correctly! See what I mean...

Decorganizing: Binders

I originally got this idea from an old Pottery Barn catalog (above). I have all my inspiration binders labeled with pictures on the spine indicating what is in each binder. Like so...

(l to r) Pillows/Fabrics, Window Treatments, Office/Organization, Bedding, Exterior, etc.

For the record, I have many more and some are just labeled I, II, III, IV, V, etc. for unclassified, general "I like 'em" things. I see Tara Guerard of Soiree (a local special events company) did the same in her office which was featured in Better Homes & Gardens magazine.

Amen to that Tara! I feel the same way! But just to be real with you people...this is what my office looks like on a day to day basis.

Serenity now!!!

Decorganizing: With Clos-ette

Melanie Fascitelli has created quite an empire in custom closet design with her company Closette, based in New York. She has worked with many high-end clients including celebrities to create not only a well organized closet but a beautiful showplace for their wardrobes! I am thinking that I need to do the same thing here in Charleston... high-end closet design/organization! Dreamy. Check out some of her work!

She also created an online shop with all of her approved products. Interested in organizing your closet but would rather do it yourself? Check out her book.

Decorganizing: Seasonal Closets

Does your room look like this? Mine sure does after trying to figure out what to wear for a night on the town!

Lucky Magazine has a great article this month on organizing your closet. I figured it was good timing to post about it seeing as how we are changing our clothes out for spring/summer (yeah!). I realize it might be hard to read because I scanned it in but if you click on each image, it should come out larger or click here for the article. Or just go buy the magazine! And while I'm at it, I have done several posts on organizing and inspiring closets in case you are interested, go to "closets" under my Labels and check 'em out for yourself!

Decorganizing: Clipboard To-Do-List

As I am trying to get organized in the new year, I am considering this idea... a clipboard for each day of the week telling me what I need to get done that day. Then if I don't get it done on Monday, I can move it to Tuesday. What do you think? If you are a fellow designer, you know that you can start of a day on a solid schedule/checking off your to-do-list but by 10:00 you are totally off track! You get a call and have to immediately change gears to talk to a client, put out a fire or track down details on an order. This is a very ADD-centric job. And I am the total antithesis of ADD and get frustrated when I get distracted from the task at hand so it is a constant struggle for me! Maybe this technique will work...
