WIN 3 COPIES OF DECORATE WORKSHOP by HOLLY BECKER

I'm taking a little break from our busy offices to share with you this fabulous giveaway to win Holly Becker's second book: Decorate Workshop.
I got Holly's book a few weeks ago when I attended her book launch at Anthropologie and finally managed to find the time to read it last Saturday. What a treat it was!
I love Holly. She is one of the nicest, warmest and inspirational person I've ever met and I feel even closer to her since we shared our stories on Kelly Hoppen's (here and there) and realised how challenging it had been for her too since she launched her blog Decor8 so I think she deserves fully all the credits and success she is getting now.
Taking the same friendly, warm and approachable tone that has made her blog famous, Holly takes you through 8 simple and creative steps from seeking inspiration, planning, translating your ideas to turn your space into the space of your dreams.
I loved it!  If you've ever felt the task was so daunting that you didn't know where to start and in the end did nothing or very little, Decorate Workshop is the perfect book for you and definitively one to add to your Christmas wish list.
I think this is a book that is going to be very empowering for a lot of people!!

The good news is that I have teamed up with Holly's publisher JACKI SMALL to offer 3 readers the chance to win a copy of this very inspirational book
All you need to do is leave a comment on the blog and share the competition on Facebook
Small print: The DECORATE WORKSHOP competition closes at midnight GMT on 16 December 2012.  Winning commenters will be chosen via eight random.org number searches . Prizes are non-transferable and all decisions made by random.org are final.. Bonne chance!

Inspiring diner curated by KINFOLK | Food styling

As mentioned here, KINFOLK is a community of artists with a shared interest in small gatherings. My favourite shot ever from these diners is still this one taken by Leo Patrone in the Green Building in NYC.
Last September, they met on British Columbia’s Vancouver Island to share a dinner. The night was hosted at the historic China Town loft of local florist Erica Smolders of Rook & Rose and curated by herself and designers Ellie Chapple and Tara Hurst.
I''m always in awe with the photography of their gatherings. I wish we could do the same in London. Well, as usual...when I have something in mind, I just act upon it so I have contacted them to see how we could make one happen in London....
You can order KINFOLK Vol.5 hereit's the perfect read to embrace the beauty of Autumn...
Photography: Ameris

KINFOLK Vol. 5 | A guide for small gatherings

The new KINFOLK Volume 5 is out.
For those who do not know about KINFOLK, KINFOLK is a growing community of artists with a shared interest in small gatherings. They recognize that there is something about a table shared by friends, not juts a wedding or once-a-year holiday extravaganza, that anchors our relationships and energizes us. So KINFOLK is a collaborative way of advocating the natural approach to entertaining that we love.
Every element of KINFOLK - the features, photography and general aesthetics - are consistent the way we feel entertaining should be: simple, uncomplicated and less contrived. KINFOLK is the the marriage of our appreciation for art and design and our love to spending time with family and friend.
The perfect read to embrace the beauty of Autumn! Get yours from here

WIN 3 COPIES OF WONDER WALLS by SUPERMARKET SARAH

I was very excited when I received a copy of the new WONDER WALLS book by Sarah Bagner, better known as Supermarket Sarah. Sarah is a very creative person and I've always been a fan of her displays.
After graduating from art college, Sarah moved into styling and sold her vintage founds in Portobello Market until she launched Supermarket Sarah where she basically created unique, striking displays for various people & brands online. I think the concept is genius!
Since then, her famous displays have spread into public spaces like galleries, bars and she even had a pop-up store at Selfridges and did some installations for Donna Wilson, Tom Dixon etc.
WONDER WALLS is about embrace everything we own and learn how put it on display and there is some great examples for all of us who love vintage, collecting, fixing, displaying.
At some point in my life, I was starting a collection as soon as I had 4 items from the same series (I still have a massive Egg collection at my mum's and key rings and stamps and small metal boxes...). Do you know what I'm talking about? :-))
There is some pretty wacky interiors in the book such as the home of the Godfather of Japanese Horror comics, Kazuo Umezu and in contrast some more peaceful interiors like the home of fashion designer Asa Stenerhag (photo 4) which draws inspiration from nature, both in her art and her fashion line - very inspiring...
The good news is that I have teamed up with CICO BOOKS to offer 3 readers the chance to win a copy of this fabulous week.
All you need to do is leave a comment on the blog and share the competition on Facebook

SLØ - an invitation to slow down...

SLØ - is an invitation to slow down, to take it easy and find beauty and happiness in simple, everyday's things that life brings to us...
SLØ - is a new, beautiful and inspiring magazine by Sophie Denux who also brought us Toc-Toc-Toc and the talented product designer Caroline Gomez
SLØ - is also a reflection and expression of the Slow Design movement - a growing trend that seeks a holistic approach to designing and takes into consideration a wide range of material and social factors as well as the short and long term impacts of the design. It is also about going back to the basics and appreciate the work of a designer, her/his choice of material, the craftmanship involved in the production of the design rather than focusing on the price. It's about going for quality rather than quantity (something that I expressed here).
SLØ - is a little break in our busy lives...
You can buy it from here but I'm also going to France next Saturday for a week so if it is something you would like to order from the shop please let me know, as I will not be far from Caroline and I can bring a few copies back to London.

In the shop this week: MILK DECORATION No 5

I came back from Paris yesterday with a batch of the MILK DECORATION No 5.
The book is totally delightful and exactly the kind of interiors I love and I aim to recreate in Mila's bedroom at home or in the shop so I think you will love it too.
The intro below by Marie Montuir, Editor of the TV show Interieurs also summarizes the spirit of this book very well:
"Not so very long ago, when I was a little girl, interior decoration for kids was strictly codified. Dreamy pink for girls, navy blue for boys. The lounge and the parents' bedroom were adult sanctuaries. On Sunday mornings, when the boys come bounding in far too early, screaming how much they love us and scattering cornflakes in between the sheets, I sometimes regret that slightly rigid division of territories. I get my revenge by hanging their pedal car over their bed or plonking a vintage lamp down on their desk. But they love it! Even worse, I have to ask their permission before putting their Star Wars "AT-TA" walker in the lounge. It's as beautiful as a modern sculpture..."

I'm glad decoration codes at home have changed and while it would be nice to have most days our lounge looking how I had envisioned it when I slaved over DIY: i.e calming & relaxing rather than looking like an extension of Mila's bedroom with plastic, colourful toys disrupting the simplicity of the few, carefully selected objects I displayed, I would not changed it for the world.
I'm as guilty as her anyway. While I ask her on a daily basis to take her stuff back to her room, the rabbit lamp that I took home for her bedroom is still proudly sitting in our lounge near my beloved Paulistano chair (see page 5 of our catalogue) and Mima le Chat print has very much find its place in the more grown-up quarters.

Mollie makes magazine....

Have you heard of Mollie Makes magazine? It's a new magazine for People who love the crafty life... I'm not sure about the strapline, it's a bit too cheesy for my taste but the content of the mag is great..what am I saying..it's wonderful!!
They have been kind enough to feature lots of products from here but that's not the reason why I'm writing about them. When Sophie showed me their issue 2, I was happily surprised how nice, modern, creative and inviting their layout and the contents were.
Mollie Makes is almost a print version of everything we/I like to read on blogs: beautiful things we're coveting, creative places to hang out like The Papered Parlour around the UK, cool home accessories, new books to read, creative people around the world, vintage treasures, little crafty projects, things to do for/with kids and I think you will really like it.
It costs £4.99 per issue which may be a bit pricey but I think it's worth a try and it seems to me that's the kind of magazine that one keeps. If you get a copy this week, please do let me know what you think of it. In the meantime, we will see if they are interested in doing something with us as giveways because I think you will enjoy this!
