4 truly inspiring bedrooms using dark grey

Wow...already 68 comments on this post to  win Holly's fabulous new book. It's nice to know you're out there cheeky monkeys!
Bon OK, I have to admit, writing about Xmas gift guides to push the BODIE and FOU collection is not what excites me the most and it may not be that exciting for you either. I think most of you knows by now that I'm behind this online concept store but at the same time, it has to be done so I think next year, I may get someone else to do this for me.

However, what really fires me up is telling you about new things we've added and thinking about our new 2013 collection and Spring/Summer catalogue 2013. I have about 40% of the collection already mapped out in my head and I can't wait to go to Paris in January to finalise it.
Yesterday, we received new two hues for our bed linen collection.
The first one is this beautiful dark grey stonewashed linen duvet cover - now online.
The second one is a gorgeous summery blue (similar to the blue of this dress) which I'll take to France soon, as Francois and I will start styling and shooting our Spring/Summer catalogue 2013 just after Christmas.

So here are four truly inspiring bedrooms using dark grey. The third one was styled in my home but I'm in love with the first and second one. Which one do you prefer?

{Thank you for leaving a comment. Reading them always makes me very happy}

3 ways to update your guest bedroom for Christmas

I'm known for kicking off DIY projects the day after Christmas...
A few years ago, after a jolly Christmas meal where I ate for the entire year, I got restless and enrolled my brother and sister to revamp our mum's beach house next door and we spent the last few days of the year stripping wallpapers off and painting everything in white to bring more light to each room. We had a great time, cracking up jokes about our childhood and listening to old French pop songs on the radio although I doubt they would like to repeat the experience - one DIY Xmas is enough but I still enjoy doing things around the home to make it look better.
With Christmas around the corner, you're bound to have family staying at your place so here are a few things you can do to create inspiring and inviting guest bedrooms.

boho bedroom

Is this not the most charming room ever?  I love the layers and the split in the paint with the faded details.  So simple and amazing!

Wishing you a wonderful Tuesday.  It feels like the holiday season is really starting to kick in around here.  How about where you are?  Are you feeling it?  Does it feel like a pinch or are you easing into the whole thing?

Looking for inspiring ideas? Here is a sneak-peek of our Autumn catalogue

One week to go and we wil receive the first copies of new Autumn catalogue...I'm super excited! It has been a mammoth job for our team between the new site, the new collection and the Christmas catalogue which is bigger than our Summer one but everything looks amazing!

One of my favourite spread is the WOOD+COPPER+LINEN shot by Francois which I styled.
OK I admit I'm totally biased given that everything we put in our collection are things we love but this beautiful washed linen collection just makes my heart beat a bit faster.
When we shot the cover of our Summer catalogue, I couldn't resist and treated myself with the blue grey duvet cover and since then added the pure white duvet cover.
Elodie bought the soft grey duvet cover which she mixed with white pillow cases - Gorgeous!
And the more I stare at the new mustard duvet cover, the more I want it, who is with me on this!? :-)
The gorgeous handmade star garland can be found here

2 Down...

Well another set of installs are done.. mostly.  We had no window coverings but hey those will be there on Friday and then I can take a bit better pictures.  That is the hardest part I think about installing design jobs is getting everything to come together on time and in the correct condition.  Inevitably something goes wrong but you learn to improvise and sometimes it ends up being better because you are actually in the space.
I was pretty pleased with these spaces over all.  We still have things to add and things to finish up but it was a good day of work.

weekend of R & R

How has another week passed so quickly.  I could seriously loose a few days in this room if I tried.  Couldn't you just imagine reading with the natural light?

What do you have planned for the weekend? I think I may have already mentally started the weekend!

Twins...

I just love this look and the headboards are pretty much amazing!  I love the idea of a room big enough to hold a pair of twin beds with a single table between.  Our next home will have one of these for visitors, can't you just see sweet little grand children sleeping in a pair.

Bedroom masterplan

Since I've been styling our bed linen collection for the shot below in our guest room (see BODIE and FOU SS/12 catalogue), I have been dying to re-do our own bedroom.
When we moved in a couple of years ago, my first call of action was to paint the magnolia walls and wardrobe in white except the wall behind our bed which I painted in light grey (Pavilion Gray from Farrow & Ball).
Once this was done, my mum and I hacked a MALM bed from Ikea and built a headboard which we then covered with dark grey fabric. You can see a glimpse of it here behind Mila.
But this morning, I fell in love with this bedroom shot and I thought: this is it! This is exactly how I want my bedroom to look and I already have a gorgeous linen duvet cover and a wooden stool similar to this one pictured
So on the spur of the moment, I picked up my paint brush and spent 4 hours applying the second coat of paint onto our wardrobe and the rest of the afternoon searching for a new base and mattress - Not that it is required to achieve this look but since Steve and I slept at the Hilton Hotel last week in Cyprus,we both have been keen to achieve a similar level of comfort with our bed.
I normally wake around 6am and by the time I move a bit, I have also woken up Steve who is a light sleeper but in the hotel, our bedroom had 2 separate bed joined together so I could have jumped and down on my mattress for that matter, Steve would not have be bothered.
Each mattress also had an extra layer that made sleeping incredibly comfortable so I'm now on a mission to find the perfect base and mattress and create a beautiful, inspiring bedroom.

Grey Trim..

How fun is this bedroom with the grey trim and the crown?  Love this.  I have been considering doing the interior doors of the house in a color like this but keeping my white trim for contrast...

From another angle..

It is funny how I seem to come across images with a different view in little groups.  I love to see how a room looks from above, it can be so different and it helps you realize that it either all works together or maybe not.  At home we have a landing at the top of the stairs that looks onto the Living and Dining rooms, sometimes it is nice to get a different perspective.

mellow yellow

Sometimes all you need is a little touch of color to make you smile..  What are your plans for the weekend?  I am going to try and get into my copy of The Great Gatsby this weekend, of course it is not vintage and covered in yellow but I am sure that the story is still just as good!
 Enjoy your Friday my friends!

Styling from the weekend

Francois and I spent a few hours shooting products we had recently received and I have to say it was 3 enjoyable hours which ended with a kiwi BBQ!
We are getting better and faster and this linen collection is just amazing. It is so soft and has a such a nice feel and texture to it, it is a pleasure to sleep in it and work with it!
I really enjoyed styling this more masculine shot for our new dark grey duvet cover, using Steve's boots, an old apple crate, the Typed Love print and the New-Zealand Type map print.
Sadly our supplier is stopping the vintage pink series so once what we have left in stock is gone, we won't be able to re-order them, which is a shame.
I also love the first photo very much because it includes 3 of my favourite things from our collection:
- the Urbanears Plattan headphones which I strongly recommend - great sound, great design and perfect for running (as in..they stay on your head!)
the blue grey linen scarf + this NEW linen scarf in soft pink we posted on Facebook yesterday.
- and of course this dark grey duvet cover...
