Dark kitchen storage..

I am daydreaming again, I know it will soon be a reality but my house is a mess. All of the furniture on the lower level is covered in plastic and not accessible.   Soon Soon they tell me that we can move all of our things back in and I am waiting (kinda) patiently.  I love both of these storage pieces and cannot wait for the piece that I am having made to come in!  So ready.

Grey bookcases..

I have been studying up on grey storage pieces lately for the kitchen and family room.  I came across this piece which I don't think I have shared.  Love this.  I am not sure what it is that makes it seem so right, the monochromatic feel of the books that are slightly askew?

Preppy Grey..

This is such a fun twist on the dark grey, it is well used in this office space and it is nice to see something a little different.  That desk doesn't hurt either.  I love that they used the rug for texture and I think it makes it just casual enough.

Kitchen redo.. little details

We are knee deep in decisions for the kitchen remodel here at home and I am finding more and more things that I love..  The detail on the interior of this cabinet is so pretty! I love the color with the dark exterior finish, I want it.   I have also been looking for tables and this one makes my heart skip a beat the twist on the original makes me so want it too... humm.

What do you think?  I am hoping that next week I will have more time to put together some posts that are more interesting!!  When I have presentations and installations back to back it seems to use up all of my creative powers!

French inspiration..

Some days more than others I feel very inspired..  In remodeling my own kitchen I have found that I am very inspired by the look of vintage display cabinets.  I am assuming that many of the pieces I have seen and saved images away of are vintage shop cabinets- much like this one from France.  These pieces make me smile inside..  they remind me of some of my other French favorites.  As I am sure you know if you have read the blog for a little while I am completely obsessed with Vintage French goodies as well as some new French goodies too.

Thank you to Vicki at French Essence for posting about her kitchen and her dishes yesterday, you got my wheels spinning and reminded me I need to make a wish list of dishes for my next trip to France in the spring...  So here are a few of my favorites for the kitchen and a little French Inspiration.

Have a day dreamy Tuesday!

kitchen love....

yep you guessed it I am completely kitchen obsessed right now!  I cannot stop looking through images and thinking of new ideas to add to my kitchen.  We are working on the island and the pantry right now so it is all about the right sink and faucet, how big can we make the pull out trash cans, and things like that (sounds pretty exciting, huh!)  This kitchen is pretty amazing I love the separation with the glass windows, the stripe for the banquette and the pendants- all fantastic!

Grey Storage...

These bookshelves are fantastical!  I love the height of the base, it gives them a completely unusual look, in a good way.  Built-in book shelves always make me think of an older established home.
The background is painted an even darker shade of grey which gives it some additional depth.

Grey in the closet..

The cabinetry in here along with the windows makes this seem not at all like a closet- more of a dressing area.

I love the stool and the little bit of color with the pink!

Grey Storage...

I love the slightly disorganized feeling here...  everything is so simple and clean that it seems to work.  It reminds me of my everyday..  slightly askew and perfectly out of balance!

Have a wonderful Friday!

Black and white storage.

I taken by this picture.  It is such a simple idea to have all white china.  It is easy but at the same time it seems impossible for me.  Maybe I should lean towards that light grey blue that covers my all time favorite dishes from Astier de Villatte.  That seems more reasonable right?  Just a whole cabinet full of them - dreamy.

thank you to elliot for the photo info!!!

Bathroom Storage

I have been looking for some interesting storage pieces for a client's bathroom. The house is rather traditional so I was looking for character pieces. I like this great six drawer cabinet as well as this cool industrial shelving trolley.
Photographs via French Country.
I have had some enquiries about the shelving trolley. It measures at 845mmHx1240mmLx450mmD. If you interested in purchasing, sent me an email!

To WORK or to PLAY...The Manhattan Beach Dilemma.

Home office planning 101... make sure to incorporate LOTS of distractions. Life is too short to be so serious! (photo by Manolo Langis.)

This Manhattan Beach homeowner came to GEORGE with a dilemma... with a house full of kids (3 darling ones), a busy schedule being a wife and mom, and the occasional house visitor...she needed the only spare room in the house to function as way more than just a guest bedroom with a play station for the kids shoved up against the wall...

Other than serving as the indoor trampoline for the kids, the guest bed seemed an unwelcome occupant of the much needed space.

Another problem that threatened to drive the homeowner insane was the 8' tall pair of sliding doors at the closet which greatly hampered access to what was inside...

The tight space (and sweet family) definitely needed a space that would look good and function for all of their needs. GEORGE got to work planning the house's "HQ" or headquarters so to speak... custom side-by-side work stations for Mom and kids, a wall mounted flat screen on a pivoting arm, shelving for additional storage, a pull out bed and a spot for the kids to sit while watching TV or playing Wii.

Here is a shot of the wall-to-wall desk unit being built and the custom "components" cabinet. For the dimensions of the table, we took into account the seat height of the incredibly beautiful Lange Side Chair (Room and Board). We needed just enough room for a person to comfortably sit at the computer, have room for a skinny ped file (from Ballard Design) and of course the components at center:

The shelves were built to accommodate a printer/scanner/fax machine on top and the cable box/Wii components on the bottom. The glides underneath the pull out shelves, allow the homeowner to roll the shelf out /send a fax without the slightest inconvenience (see opening photo).

Here is the desk unit fully installed and lacquered white. The pendant was a custom creation by Cindy Ciscowski. TV was hardwired into the wall with a 1 receptacle directly behind the TV, and another below, just behind the cable box.

Wood floors were installed, window treatments made and slipper chairs were upholstered... The fabric on these chairs (a favorite Hinson fabric called Oxus Blues) is actually laminated with the COOLEST new lamination process... it is totally breathable and almost matte. Perfect for the little ones:

The sliders on the closet doors (at far left) were replaced with bifolds (the 8' tall frame was not reinforced to hold the weight of single panel doors). We miraculously found 8' bifolds in the same Brazilian Cherry wood species and with the same sticking detail as the rest of the doors in the house...(thank you Dave at Learned Lumber and Palacios Painting for the awesome stain treatment):

And alas... a workable, beautiful space...
