Let's Tango!

Lately, we've really felt the urge to tango here at George Interior Design... tangerine tango, that is!! Pantone's color of the year for 2012 is tangerine tango - a hue that evokes warmth, fun, and optimism. Adding a little tangerine tango can really bring a splash of life and vivacity to a space. A tad bit can go a long way as an accent color, or you can go all out for a bolder effect. Keep scrolling for some inspiration images:

This is a versatile hue and it's hard not to be in love with the energy it brings!

Bejewelled

As the weather has slowly been getting cooler, I have become more and more drawn to warm, GORGEOUS jewel tones.  These wool acorns I blogged about a few weeks ago really sealed the deal on my recent jewel tone love affair!

While I love all of the below rooms, I'm not quite sure if I am bold enough to try something similar in my own home.  ALTHOUGH, I would definitely bejewel a little girls room. This Jonathan Adler bedroom is absolutely adorable, and pretty much perfect for a creative and hyper little diva named Rael (my daughter!).

A Rainbow of Inspiration

Did you know about this? I'm very excited!

I know there are some Sarah Richardson fans out there! Those of you who are with me, will probably be excited to hear that Sarah Richardson has teamed with Para Paints to create her own paint palette with 75 gorgeous colors. From the quick glances I've taken, I'm liking them. They totally remind me of her signature muted or toned (colors with grey added, a little color theory 101 for you!) color schemes, which suits me just fine! I've already referred to these choices for my family cottage and have to say that it is pretty nice feeling like a trust-worthy, "bestfriend" has laid out some fail proof go-tos for me. :)

Here are some of the paint colors used in Sarah's home...

And feast your eyes on the full collection...I'm particularly loving a bunch of the greys!

Unfortunately for most of us, these are currently only available in Canadian Lowe's stores. Hopefully they make it south soon!

*********************************************************

Color Theory 101...

1. Adding white to a color, or paint, is called tinting...

2. Adding grey is called toning...

3. Adding black is called shading...

Hope you're all having a great week!

Trend Alert

Elle Decor has declared that pastels are "in" - not my absolute favorite when used all together, but I think I could definitely mix them in in small bits. I do, however, really love these beautiful green and gold rimmed dishes by Anna Weatherley.

Designed by Patricia Urquiola, the Mandarin Oriental Barcelona opened in November, and low and behold, PASTELS! And, I love it. Not only do the pale blue, turquoise, yellow, orange, purple and cremes look soft, relaxing and beautiful together, but the architectural details turned out fabulous. The airy, net-like screen is my favorite part, and I can just imagine the wonderful things it does with lighting and shadows.

{It's a bit hard to see the true beauty of the colors in this photo, if you have the April issue of Elle Decor, check out page 52}

After researching the rest of the hotel, I found these other photos. I want to take a trip here, Barcelona is on my list ya know!

Being such a fan of architectural screens, I can't help but admire all these gold ones. They are a perfect reference to the hotel's Asian influence, yet in a modern and interesting way.

These rooms look amazing too! Good sleeps would be had! Something about white in a hotel room is high on my list of favs. I feels clean both visually and physically...

Here is a great example of the light shows created by all the decorative screening. I'm sure everything tastes better while eating in a space like this...

And after all my potential sight-seeing, I wouldn't have a problem having a drink on this rooftop patio, or taking a swim in this dark, cave-like pool...

Off to inform my husband about our next getaway! hehe

A Pot of (Design) Gold

I'm back after a few weeks off! I couldn't resist writing a post about all the wonderful green items and rooms I've spied. Green is my FAVORITE color!

A fellow UCLA Interior Design grad was featured in Lonny magazine. The whole featured house is gorgeous, but I particularly love this green dresser. What an amazing shade of green, and the style of the dresser isn't too shabby either...

This is such a beautiful bathroom by the ever so talented Erika from Urban Grace Interiors - her blog is one of my daily reads. I love the perfectly imperfect green glass tiles, along with just about everything else she chose...

For just a touch of green, how about some Ikat celery pillows? Would love a few of these for my living room...

What is it about green paired with gold? It's a match made in heaven! So fresh and elegant...

CB2 sells some great Ikat styled bowls...again my fav with the green and gold. These would be great to add a smidgen of green to your dining table or as a cute decorative dish on a side table or shelf...

Hope you enjoy some good luck & some good design today...
Happy St Patrick's Day!

I ♥ Pink

Hope everyone had a sweet and love-filled Valentine's day!

After seeing pink everywhere this weekend, I was reminded of this adorable hotel suite by Sarah Richardson. She created a temporary pink suite at the Park Hyatt in Toronto for breast cancer awareness and it was chic and just perfectly pink. I love the subtle pink backgrounds, and the pops of hot pink accents...

I knew there had to be many other amazing pink rooms, and here are a few I found on flickr. I love the traditional mouldings and tufted, circular bench in this entrance - all dressed in pink!

This is the most darling bedroom, perfectly pink for any princess. My daughter needs a mini pair of chairs like these...

This settee with pink pillows is adorable...

Isn't this bed amazing?! I love the twisty, whimsical lines. This room is so fresh and airy, and I really like how each side of the bed is balanced and symmetrical, but does not match perfectly.

It's Just Paint!

It's easy to paint moulding white, but consider the statement you could make by simply painting it out in a color - keep it subtle or be dramatic. Don't worry, it's just paint!

You don't have to paint your moulding a high contrast or flashy color in order to draw attention to its detail. Create a subtle look by painting your moulding the same color as your walls...

You can also achieve a soft look by choosing a shade slightly darker or lighter than your wall color...

If you're feeling more dramatic, go high contrast. Classic black and white is a great scheme, and black moulding looks fabulous!

Not sure about black, why not ease into it? We love how one portion of this moulding has been painted, creating a thin, interesting stripe.

Don't be afraid to try any of these options in just one room of your house. The two images below are adjacent rooms and demonstrate nicely how you can mix different looks successfully...

Lastly, take color outside and freshen up the look of an exterior facade...
