Halloween at Tiffany's - Holly Golightly Costume and Pumpkin

Halloween is fast approaching and I'm sad to say that this year I will not be dressing up.
I'm currently so busy with school, as well as having been hired on to work as a cashier at a two week pop up sale, that I just don't have the time for Halloween parties this year.

Instead, I wanted to share with you my favourite Halloween costume and pumpkin that I have ever done!
Y'all know I'm a bit obsessed with Audrey Hepburn, my idol, so in my first year of University when I was living on residence (can't believe that was 4 years ago already), I decided to dress up as Holly Golightly:
I seriously loved this costume more than anything. Believe it or not I was the only girl I saw in rez dressed up as Holly Golightly.. most chose to go the 'less clothing' route. And yes, I am holding a grilled cheese sandwich. The all night caf was truly a life saver sometimes!

Then, the following year I got all-audrey'd out with my pumpkin carving skills.
I've been seeing lots of pics of painting pumpkins this year. Love the look, but in my opinion nothing beats a handful of cold pumpkin guts. Just me or...?
^Photo op before changing into 'it's okay if they get messy' clothes. I drew the picture free hand from a similar image I saw on the internet.
All carved up! We still have that floral wallpaper in the powder room at my parents house. I kind of love it in a weird way. And yes, I cheated with the tiara. I purchased it at the dollar store and went all 'Mean Girls Homecoming Scene' breaking off bits until it fit.
 All lit up!
And that, my friends, is how you do Halloween at Tiffany's.
Are you dressing up this Halloween? As what?!

DIY: Touch of Gold Picture Frame

I wanted to frame my ultra glamorous print of Audrey Hepburn that my mom got from a vendor in NYC, but I wasn't sure what colour of frame to use since the print came with a black matte.
I thought white would be too stark of a contrast and take away from the picture, but black might be too basic.
In the end, I went with a plain black Ribba frame, to which I added a gold band on the inner part of the frame.

I love the result, and it was super easy:

1) The Supplies:
Picture Frame (I used Ribba) / Piece of art / Painters tape / Krylon 18kt Gold Leaf Pen

2) Pop the guts (glass, matte, backing etc.) out of the frame, leaving the frame only.
Carefully cover the face of the frame with painter's tape, making sure the edge is straight and clean.

3) Using the gold leaf pen, colour in the inside edge of the frame

4) Allow the paint to dry for about ten minutes

5) Peel  the tape off slowly, frame your art and enjoy!
The result is fantastically subtle. From straight on, the frame looks all black, but viewed from an angle, the touch of gold adds the perfect amount of sparkle.

A super quick and easy project! What do you think?

Touches of Tassels

Gone are the days when tassels indicated formality in the form of elaborate drapery ties. Tassels are now fun and trendy, and I adore them (Could you tell by my header?). The fact that Audrey wore tassel earplugs in Breakfast at Tiffany's show that these can be timeless beauties as well!

There is some more tasseled goodness to be seen in there. xo

I Spy

I spy with my little eye something that is gorgeous.
Audrey Hepburn, obvi, but I'm talking about the magnifying glass!
I found it at HomeSense for only $9.99. I fell in love with the lucite handle and the golden accents. I noticed a small scratch on the lens, and got a couple dollars off. Good detective work (get it?).

It reminded me of some of my favourite vignettes that have been floating around the blogosphere lately, including this one from The Every Girl.

All About Audrey

Who doesn't love Audrey Hepburn? I know there have been a ton of blog posts about Audrey and her iconic style, but that's the one great thing about Audrey: you can never get enough! (kind of like Sugar Crisp, only WAY better). She is amazing for her classic sense of style, beauty and grace, and for her admirable philanthropic achievements. They just don't make them like this in Hollywood anymore folks!

Audrey is also a humble homebody, reportedly saying "I have to be alone very often. I'd be quite happy if I spent from Saturday night until Monday morning alone in my apartment. That's how I refuel".
What better way to celebrate this quote than to explore some simple ways to incorporate a little Audrey into our own spaces to refuel:

1) Audrey Hepburn artwork:
I have three pieces of art work/prints of Audrey Hepburn hanging in my bedroom. Audrey prints can be found all over the place, including poster stores and IKEA.

^^Here is my desk area with pops of hot pink in these Audrey Hepburn canvases given to me by my brother for Christmas a few years ago.

^^ There she is again beside my closet and above my make-up storage area. This is a seriously glamorous shot of my style idol that my mom picked up for me from a street vendor in New York City. It inspires me when I'm picking out my outfits and getting pretty. Here's a pic of me channeling my inner Audrey:

Okay okay, you caught me! This was for Halloween back in my first year of university! (You can notice that behind me I had a gigantic Breakfast at Tiffany's poster decorating the cinder block walls of my dorm room).
While we're on the topic I might as well show you my pumpkin from this past Halloween as well:

Alright you get the idea...I'm a big fan. Now back to decor!

2) As the star of the film, Audrey Hepburn has become synonymous with  Breakfast at Tiffany's. As a decor idea, why not try to incorporate some Tiffany Blue either through paint or fabric!

3) And my third design tip (and probably the most unrealistic) is a clawfoot bathtub turned into a couch! Ha! Holly Golightly in Breakfast at Tiffany's has one in her apartment, so why shouldn't we? I guess I would also settle for a clawfoot bathtub, you know, the kind you take an actual bath in.
