Amy Maas

I stopped into Jules Place, a local art gallery yesterday. She represents some amazing artists from around the country. I find it's sometimes tough to post photos of artist's work because they lack the depth that the pieces have in person. Amy's pieces are full of texture and have a high gloss finish. They're gorgeous. I especially love some of her purple pieces, they're unexpected and over sized. Here's a bit about Amy's process. I love the idea of painting to different types of music. 

Amy Maas:

"The new series is called "soundtracks". Painting to music has always been integral to my work. I need the music to clear my mind - to make room for my thoughts and emotions to express themselves. by combining my two great loves of music and painting, I am able to concentrate and lose myself in the moment. I decided to paint to music I listen to this time, instead of using it as a background. Therefore each painting is a direct result of an actual soundtrack I listened to while painting."

Captured

I went to New York for an extended weekend. It was a whirlwind but amazing time. Fashion week began the night I arrived so the city was abound with fashionistas. I flew down to meet a very sweet friend who was kind enough to invite me to stay with him at Andaz Hotel. (a peaceful escape from the craziness). We fit so much into this trip. Here's a short photographic journey of some of the things I did and sites I saw. I was also able to catch Book of Mormon on Broadway! I know this sounds cliche, but I LOVE NY. It's one of my favorite places to visit and is only a 45 minute flight from Boston.

Inspired - Mario Testino

I love photography! In fact it's on my bucket list to someday take a class and learn more about this art form. I'm very much looking forward to the Mario Testino exhibit at the MFA in Boston this Fall. He's such a creative and influential force. (read more below) It opens on 10.21. I always feel a bit anxious this time of year. The past two Fall seasons have been ones of drastic change and heartbreak for me. I'm focusing on the positive and hoping this Fall will be quite the opposite and turn out amazing. I'm moving from my home, so on that front a big change is in store. This exhibit will definitely be a positive to look forward to. In fact I think I may use some of his work as a starting point and design concept for my new place. (which I need to find, something else causing me a bit of trepidation)

And to all of you who got your kiddies off to school for their first day today, hope it went well!!!

I'm looking forward and remembering: "let your faith be bigger then your fear" and everything will turn out okay!! even better then okay!

Patch NYC for Target

Last night my assistant and I attended the preview party for Patch NYC's collection for Target. Their fabulous shop is tucked away in The Courtyard on 46 Waltham Street in Boston. The designer-artist duo Don Carney and John Ross discussed their latest design collaboration with Target, which is arriving in stores on September 9th. Their style feels like a vintage meets modern mix that is both rustic and fresh.  The designers draw much of their inspiration from found objects found at the NYC flea markets.

As you know I have a thing for foxes, they're sort of my good luck charm so when I saw this guy I need I'd have to have him!

The Patch NYC Boston shop is filled with interesting finds, and art which include their collection of jewelry, art and textiles.

They also carry Waylande Gregory Ceramics, I adore his work and this relaunched line.

And their studio space!

I'll absolutely be heading back to their shop for myself and clients..It feels like a bit of NYC tucked away in Boston!

Splash!

I'm sure it's been ridiculously hot where you live so I won't talk about the weather. Although, I will mention the fact that most houses aren't air conditioned in Boston. Mine happens to be one of them. I do of course have a unit in my bedroom so my kids thought it would be a good idea to sleep with me. Sharing a bed with a squirmy 2 and 4 year old is far from restful.

I had a couple of rare minutes this am to scan pinterest. I love when I discover an image that I've never seen, like the one above. The over sized surfing photos make the space. This image got me thinking of my love in general of over -sized images depicting anything "ocean" related..surfing, the beach, the sea etc. etc.  I try to spend money wisely lately but I think money on travel and art is well spent. I have always wanted an over sized Massimo Vitali , but until then I may have to go with a "less" expensive option like the one I found on Etsy below! (bottom image is linked)
