Stylish Interior Designer's Home

Tyler used Ikea kitchen cabinetry which she wrapped with custom made oak bench tops.

The dining table with a set of 50's Carl Jacob Jason chairs that Tyler found on ebay.

A Knoll sofa in the living area.
A Nelson Platfrom bench acts as the coffee table and Tablo side tables from Design House Stockholm.

I remember very well seeing this house when it was featured on an episode of Grand Designs a couple of years ago (do you watch this show? Isn't host Kevin McLeod great?) so when I spotted it in Dwell, it was great to be able to have a closer look. This house was designed by interior designer, Kathryn Tyler and she built her home around her vintage furniture collection that she had amassed previously over the years. Read more about it here.

New Years Resolution

I'll be the first to admit that I'm a bit of a skeptic when it comes to New Years Resolutions. For the first few days, everyone approaches their resolutions with gusto and eagerness, but before long, real life resumes post-holidays and those good intentions fade into 'maybe next years'. 2012, however, is going to be a BIG, huge, lifechanging year for me.
1) I'm moving out of my parents' house
2) I'm starting a new educational path
3) I will be going to school with future designers in Toronto

These things all lead me to think that something has got to change in order to accommodate all of these grown up changes. My resolution: Look the part.

Something you should all know about me, I LOVE sweatpants, more than I probably should. This is not to say that I wear them all of the time, but I am definitely one of those students who rolls out of bed, throws on some sweats and shows up in class looking lazy (I should note that I am NOT actually lazy at school, just averaged a 91% this semester eeee). As an undergrad at a predominantly 'farming' university and having to drive forty five minutes just to arrive on campus, however, I've felt somewhat entitled to take advantage of the sweat pant luxury while I still can.

By the way, If you happen to be in the market for an amazing pair of sweatpants, I pretty much live in my Roots Original Pocket Sweats in Salt and Pepper. Cute, comfy and excellent quality. Available at http://canada.roots.com

BUT, I know that in Toronto, sweats everyday just won't cut it. Especially considering I will be attending a SMALL school where everyone I run into may play a potential role in my future career. Gotta represent myself right. Besides, I've got a lot of nice clothes that don't get worn nearly enough.

Thus, its time to start dressing more professionally, more often. Start putting my best foot forward to make those good first impressions, and look the part of a successful interior designer. It's never too early to start!

What's YOUR resolution? I'd love to hear :)

jonathan adler.

i have always had a special place in my heart for mr. adler. his bold pops of color have been a reminder for me to use more color in my projects. he also impressed me on top design (*tear*). which i wish would come back. tomorrow.

amanda and i made our way out to the parker in palm springs many months back to see the goods in person. holy blankety blank. we absolutely loved it. we would have loved it more had we had a spa appointment; maybe next time. now i get to go to his store whenever i choose because his new location opened in fashion island a few months back. rewind to this past weekend...i spot the jonathan fashion island storefront in a new, well, location. what what what. they grew in size by at least 500, and his lovely, precious cargo is now next to trina turk. double bonus. here are a couple of yummy pieces from the new collection. for those of you who live in orange county, i strongly suggest you come check it out. for those of you who don't, i strongly suggest you come check it out. oh, and they have kids furniture now, too. i thought it may be too much to post that since i already posted on that topic yesterday. can you tell i'm not ready? :) jolene.

jeff lewis design. ryan brown design.

if you are not watching flipping out on bravo, then something is wrong with you. it's such a great show, especially if you are in the design field and enjoy laughing. jeff lewis is hilarious; his way of doing things (sounds so vague, but really i'm referring to everything he does) makes me re-think my own life and style, and zoila keeps me smiling. and let's not forget the pets. holy shit. i love them all. when we got our himalayan kitty, i wanted to name her monkey after monkey. hubs nixed it. this season is really just getting better and better. i watch each episode twice. i pulled a couple of pictures off of jeff's website to entice those of you who do not follow his antics to get on the bandwagon. immediately.

for those of you who do not follow the jeff and the bunch, his former best friend, ryan brown, is no longer on the season. they had a falling out at the end of last season's episode, and he's not back this year. tear. i thought i would show a couple of images from his portfolio, as well. enjoy! jolene.
